PADI Open Water Diver Certification Course

The PADI Open Water Diver Course is the world’s most popular scuba certification and the first step to exploring the underwater world. If you’ve been searching for “scuba certification near me” or want to learn to scuba dive, this course will give you the knowledge, skills, and confidence to dive safely anywhere in the world.

At Southeast Texas Scuba, our experienced instructors guide you through the complete PADI training system, which includes three main phases: Knowledge Development, Confined Water Training, and Open Water Dives.

Knowledge Development (Online Learning)

The course begins with PADI eLearning, where you’ll learn the essential principles of scuba diving including dive safety, equipment basics, dive planning, and underwater communication. The online learning allows you to study at your own pace from home before coming to the dive shop for in-water training.

Confined Water Training

During confined water dives, you’ll practice essential scuba skills in a pool or pool-like environment under the supervision of a certified PADI instructor. This is where you become comfortable with your scuba equipment while learning skills such as breathing underwater, mask clearing, regulator recovery, buoyancy control, and underwater communication.

You’ll complete several training dives that simulate real diving experiences so that when you move to open water you feel confident and prepared.

Open Water Training Dives

The final step is completing four Open Water training dives at a local dive site. During these dives you will apply the skills you learned in training while exploring the underwater environment with your instructor. Once these dives are completed successfully, you will earn your PADI Open Water Diver Certification.

  • Dive anywhere in the world with a buddy
